Ride Log #10 @ Upton Cheyney on 14 June 2002

Back

As it's only four weeks before the Kona 100 (AKA Schwinn 100) Grahame and myself felt we ought to be getting out a bit more as "training", so we decided to make the most of the long days and meet at 6pm in Bitton. I know rides can become boring if riden too much but this ride is of such quality and good locality that the novelty never seems to rub off.

It was a very muggy June evening and the uphill climb past the Upton Inn was a bit harder than normal, we were both in loose fitting dry, warm weather gear and both in the same mind that the ground would be hard packed and fast rolling. On finally reaching the bridleway we were amazed to find 3 inches of sticky mud everywhere!! Still on we went. It's probably worth mentioning that Grahames bike (as normal!) was absolutely spotless (it's a mystery to science how he gets it so clean!) - well until we hit the mud!
The ride failed to dissapoint us and we completed it in just under two hours. Really it was a textbook ride with no issues or problems - well apart from the "re-surfacing" which had been done on one of the sections of singletrack! when I say re-surfacing I really mean broken up bricks and breezeblocks just sprinkled all over the track (nice) Not nice to ride on but adds a bit of excitement by trying to stay on your bike and not destroy your tyres!!
